A water use inventory illustrates what activities use the most water and can highlight areas that have the largest opportunity for water use reductions.

Developing a Water Balance
Using data from the water use inventory, a water balance can be developed to illustrate the sources of water, how and where water is used, and how water is disposed. This can be used to identify gaps in knowledge or areas that should be addressed.
Some water use will always be unaccounted for. If more than 5% of total water consumption is unaccounted for, this should be investigated to identify potential leaks or inefficiencies.
